Eyelashes, Spray Tans and Tons of Glitter: Backstage With the Head Dancing With the Stars Makeup Artist
Getting that golden glow: First and foremost, the contestants need a good foundation for their look, which means attending Shteysel’s “Spray Tan Sundays.” At the beginning, she says, some contestants are resistant to the tan (she uses South Seas SkinCare spray tanning solution and their Island Glow Body Bronzer), but soon they warm up to it.

Aly Raisman Shares DWTS Spray Tanning Secrets
Some people have asked about all the spray tanning that happens on the show! Last week, I didn’t even get spray tanned because they did two coats on me the week before, and I was so dark. I didn’t even look like myself! So I skipped it this week, but I get really dark, really easily, so I have to do a really light shade. Everyone gets their spray tan Sunday night after camera blocking, which is when we go on the real stage and they figure out where the camera angles should be, and then we go back and shower quickly and go get spray tanned. Sometimes it’s kind of of gross! You feel really sticky, but it looks good. As the week goes on, some parts of your skin start to fade and other don’t, so you just look like a mess! I’ve never had a spray tan before the show. I’ve never even been tanning. I normally try to be all natural, but for the show, I guess you go big or you go home!
"Sometimes it’s kind of of gross! You feel really sticky"
"As the week goes on, some parts of your skin start to fade and other don’t, so you just look like a mess!"
At WestCoast Tanning Co. you will never feel gross or sticky after our Spray Tans, and you will never look like a mess! With 7 years of experience, we have tried solutions from nearly all the manufacturers and without any doubt we use the absolute BEST on the market!
It's simple, just because you may use the same solution they use on a TV show, or one supposedly used to tan a certain celebrity, doesn't make the solution a good one.
When we have tested solutions we graded them according to: 1. Color 2. Feel of application (If the solution is real wet or dry going on) 3. Longevity, and finally 4. Fading of the tan.
Our solution goes on dry, never sticky! The color is a true coco brown shade that develops according to the individuals natural skin tone. When I tan friends or groups, many clients will ask, "why does her tan look darker than mine?" I have to explain, we are not spray painting everyone the same color, our solution reacts according to the individual and some will naturally look darker than others! The length of the tan depends on several factors, but generally here in the drier climate we are accustom to in Montana it is around 5 to 7 days. Our solution fades better than any other on the market. You will never be patchy or scaly and look like you have some horrible disease.
If you've never had a spray tan, we encourage you to try it. Just make sure it's a good one. For those of you that have had a bad one, we invite you try a WestCoast Tan and let us change your mind!
